Lei Yu (Thunderstorm) is the first widely-acclaimed modern drama created by Cao Yu, China's famous playwright. Taking 5 years to accomplish, this masterpiece not only brought about great impact to the world of stage play and literature, but also prompted China's modern drama production to a more mature state by opening a brand new chapter for all drama lovers. Cao Yu was also honoured as'the father of China's modern drama'.In order to delve into the spirit of Christianity hidden in Lei Yu (Thunderstorm), this thesis uses the complete, original version of Lei Yu for the purpose of my research. The implications of Christianity will be discussed from various perspectives in terms of Christian culture. This include Cao Yu's personal characteristics, his family and educational background, Lei Yu's prelude & epilogue, prologue by the author, the hidden message and the choice of words in the script, the casting and the naming of characters, the progression of time, the untold meaning of events, the layout and structure of the story line, the specific icons and symbols used. These are elaborated in detail to analyze and explain the exclusive spirit and style of Christianity found in Lei Yu.From here it is apparent that Lei Yu's Christianity features are rather explicit, especially the obvious Christian icons in the prelude and the epilogue.
