Euphemism is the common phenomenon in every language of the world, is the hot topic for modern linguists. Different cultures, social and historical backgrounds have different kinds of euphemism. Chinese and French are the two languages with their own euphemisms. Chinese-French euphemism comparative analysis not only reflects social history, culture, values and deep psychology, but also many other aspects of national commonality and differences, and an important guideline in the cross-cultural communication and teaching of Chinese language. Clear understanding of the culture of a country allows foreign language learners to adapt more quickly to target countries, but also develop cross-cultural communication skills.Foreign language teachers should also teach more cultural aspects in order to enable students to be more efficient in cross-cultural communication and avoid cultural conflicts. This article is divided into six parts:Preface introduces the background, significance of the topic and the review of euphemism.The first chapter introduces causes and other aspects of Chinese-French euphemism from nine aspects such as death, body's defects and daily communication that show the use of euphemism.The second chapter analyzes Chinese-French euphemism from the semantic and social functions and describes common features. From semantic function euphemisms are replaced by expressions as "would not say", "do not want to say" and "embarrassed to say"; from the social angle euphemisms have polite function and avoid vulgar function.The third chapter analyzes euphemism regarding "God" and "Ghost", the euphemism compellation to people, addressing to old people, taboos, Chinese homonym, also analysis in details cultural language use and cultural differences of Chinese-French euphemisms.In the fourth chapter we give some suggestions regarding the teaching of Chinese euphemism in teaching Chinese as a second language.Conclusion is the summarizing part with explanation of this article's advantages and disadvantages.
