A Thesis On The Heterogeneous Treatment Recieved By The "Story" Between The Chinese Contemporary Novels And Their Western Counterparts

"Kubin event" is one of the hotest topics in Contemporary Literature from 2006 to 2008, and it still in discussing in the present. Although "Kubin event" is partly because of media hype, some from the Kubin's interview can be seen, his dissatisfaction with Contemporary Literature is on doubt. Kubin criticized Contemporary Literature mainly focus on the issues of language, the issues of form, the issues of consciousness. To face the Kubin's criticism, the domestic writers, scholars had a matter of opinion to express their views, among the many comments on the article, mostly for the Kubin's concept of language, few articles discussed the issue that the form of Contemporary Chinese Literature what Kubin had proposed. Kubin proposed form issues of Contemporary Chinese Literature is that Contemporary Western novels have been no story, but there are stories in Contemporary Chinese novels, so Contemporary Chinese novels have been away from modernity. To face the Kubin's criticism, this paper is from the "story" to start, first of all, analyze the concept of the story and it's position in the novel, and reached conclusion that the "story" which Kubin reffered means strong narrative, that has the plot with full linear logic. Is it really that Contemporary Western novels have been no story, but there are stories in Contemporary Chinese novels, in the third chapter investigate the narrative situation of "story" in the Chinese and Western contemporary novels, can be drawn by analyzing that overall there are obvious narrative plot in the most contemporary Chinese novels; there are narrative plot in part of contemporary Western novels, but undeniable the novels that dilute the plot and disrupt the story are the literary mainstream. The innovation of this paper is not content to conclude that, but analyze the causes of this phenomenon. Can be drawn by analyzing that contemporary Western novels diluting narrative is conform to the needs of the times, better able to express the contemporary state of human life, is the performance of modern literature. But the causes of there are stories in Contemporary Chinese novels tell us that the Contemporary Chinese Literature has its own historical and cultural traditions and modern soil, it can't be considered to have no modernity and be backward because it has narrative plot.This paper does't refute Kubin to uphold the Contemporary Chinese Literature, only gives the interpretation of the phenomenon that when the Contemporary Western novels have been generally no story the Contemporary Chinese novels have also stories.
