Liu Shicong has achieved a lot in prose translation, however, there is no monographic study on his translation style. Therefore, the present author chooses Liu's book Translation and Appreciation of Beautiful Articles in both C-E and E-C (new edition) as her research object on the basis of Liu Miqing's Theory on Translation Style, which is her theoretical framework. The paper is intended to probe into Liu Shicong's prose translation style and solve two questions--- how Liu has achieved his prose translation style and what translation methods or techniques are used to achieve his style. The thesis is divided into 4 parts, besides Introduction and Conclusion.Introduction is mainly about some background knowledge on prose and its stylistic features, the research background, the objects and purposes of research, research questions, and significance of the research. It is through providing the background knowledge that the term prose researched into in the thesis is defined, which refers to the literary composition without rhyme. Next, the stylistic features of prose are summarized from its length, content, theme, language and artistic conception. Then, the present author goes back on the present conditions of Chinese translators'studies and main problems therein, from which the present author drew the necessity and feasibility of the research conducted here. The research object is to find out Liu's prose translation style, how Liu has achieved his prose translation style and what translation methods or techniques are exploited to achieve his style. Since there is already a comparative study on translation style of Liu Shicong and Zhang Peiji, the monographic study on Liu's prose translation style seems more urgent and feasible.Chapter One is mainly concerned with Liu Shicong's life, his main works, his translation theory---the Theory of Artistic Flavor. After that, a summary of his individual translation features in C-E translation is made, with regard to these articles with more than one version from the aspects of word number, choice of words, choice of sentence patterns.Chapter Two is literature review of the present study concerning Liu Shicong, his translations and his translation theory.Based on brief discussion over translation style, and whether it is translatable, Chapter Three discusses in details Liu Miqing's Theory on Translation Style. Firstly, Liu Miqing believes in knowability and translatability of translation style, and then proposes the marking system of translation style.Chapter Four, as the most important part of the thesis, is concerned with analysis of examples of the phonological, registerial, characteristic syntactic, lexical, textural markers and markers of figures of speech in Liu's prose translations, to find out how Liu Shicong has achieved his translation style and what translation methods and techniques are used to achieve his style from both his E-C and C-E prose translation. This study is closely underpinned in Liu Miqing's theory---formal markers of the system, that is to say, it is doing the research from the six aspects of the formal markers.Last part is Conclusion drawn from the present author's research based on above analysis. The conclusions are:firstly, it is based on style of ST and its writers and by light of his creativity, his mastery skill in both Chinese and English that Liu Shicong has achieved his prose translation style, and then he makes use of various translation methods and techniques such as corresponding, recasting, decoloring and so on, to achieve his style.
