Translation And Comment On Partial Selection Of "Weather" In Prose

Abstract:The paper consists of two parts--translation and comments. The original texts are selected from The Weather, a newly-published collection of essays by Jia Pingwa, a prominent Chinese writer. Combining the examples, this paper mainly focuses on the ways of how to reduce the gap between the original work and its translated text from two aspects of translation theories and skills. In terms of the translation theories, it will have a discussion on how to employ Newmark’s "communicative translation" and "semantic translation" to guide the translation practices; in terms of the translation skills, it will analyze some translation skills that can be applied to the translation practices at language transformation level from the angles of words, sentences and texts.
