In the 1990s, the novels of Wang Xiaobo appeared as a thunder in the contemporary literary world. To some extent, his novels coordinate with the "1990s", the "cultural revolution", sex, intellectuals, liberalism, rebellion against hegemony, and many other fields, which enable its texts to present profundity, elegancy, rebellion, absurdity and diversify in style. For Chinese contemporary literary world, Wang's novels initiate the multiple dimensions of thoughts on politics, the "cultural revolution", the history, the power etc. This thesis holds the point of view that either inside or outside his text, Wang's novels are intertwined by the network of power. Revealing and criticizing the power structure is the priority of Wang's writing and never has been changed. Only through "power", we can unveil the diversity of his novels and investigate thoroughly to the core of his writing. There is an unconsciously lurking source of Wang's writing which is the memory of the "cultural revolution". Wang was a child when the "cultural revolution" occurred. As a child would observe, Wang must found "wonder" and "fun" in this revolution, and this fact would determine his future reflection on this disastrous historical event after he grew up. Furthermore, the impact on his family during the "cultural revolution" triggered his thoughts on the binary structure of knowledge-power, wisdom-silliness, despotism-freedom, humane-inhuman etc. Wang's speculation on the power-history intersection of "cultural revolution" finally directs towards the pre-modem power. Because of the childhood experience and the personal disposition, the external expression of his criticism on the power is carnivalized. Meanwhile, Wang's writing on the power differs a lot from other writers'.An obvious fact is that the excessive sexual discourse and descriptions in Wang's novels, especially SM scenes, are easy to found. By investigating his SM scenes, we could unveil the power structure of his writing. Personal and Social sadism-masochism are the main power structure modes and could explain all power fields in Wang's novels. The reason Wang Xiaobo is so abscessed with SM scene is its deconstructing and mocking effect on the power. The continuous struggle with power is the most exciting aspect of Wang's novel. However, by doing so, Wang's goal is not a world without power. To Wang Xiaobo, power is endless, thus fighting should be forever. By referring to power, Wang's real pursuing is the truth of human nature, and the ultimate expectation for freedom, guided by an "intellectual, sexual and interesting" lifestyle.
