Shi Tuo, the writer who began his literary creation in 1930s was aware of novel styles. He had been called "the explorer of variety of novel styles". In the exploration of different literature forms, which represented his personality and thoughts was his prose novel. It blended Shi Tuo's ideas into novel's forms such as languages, structures and styles. This novel's style matched up to his personal mettle exactly.By combing the dynamic process of formation and evolution of his novel's style, analyzing his novel's features in early and mature stages, this dissertation planed to grasp Shi Tuo's individual form of literary comprehensively and tried to be close enough to touch the spiritual and ideological core of this writer. The thesis not only researched the artistic techniques of texts, but also explored it's social and cultural environment and writer's psychological mechanisms.The preface reviewed study history of Shi Tuo, summarized the content and the lack of research and illuminated the subject of the article. Basing on the intensive reading of novels, the first part explored the tension and paradox of his early exploration in four parts:clumsy and poetic languages; beauty and cruel imagery; the confrontation between beautiful scenery and ugly events; excessive and superficial satire. Part Two generalize artistic characteristics of his prose novel firstly, and then research "Orchard City" which pushed his literature life to the peak as an example to discourse personalized construction of Shi Tuo's prose novel.. He weakened the narrative elements by simplifying the story and characters; expressed his emotion by using lyrical rhetoric, emotional expression directly or indirectly and a reminiscent style; used unique and various narrative perspectives and unified the whole article with a deep psychological structure of emotions as clues. The epilogue pointed out the gains and losses of form's changes after "Orchard City" and concluded that prose novel was the highest artistic achievements of Shi Tuo.
