The 2010 to 2020 short term and long term Planning Guideline for higher education reform and development, approved by the Standing Committee Meeting of the State Council which was held by Premier Wen Jiabao On May 5th,2010, pointed out that higher education reform and development will adhere to the philosophy of "Human centered, fully practicing quality education is the theme of education reforming strategy, the requirement of the times of implementing education guideline and offering solutions to questions of what talents to cultivate and how. It is all students oriented and can promote the students all-rounded development, improve student's social responsibility, creativity and practical ability." In this sense, art design teaching in colleges and universities around the country is to cultivate student's creativity of art design as well as healthy personality and artistic accomplishment. However, the current art teaching in colleges and universities, to a great extent, separates theoretical teaching from practical skills, the teaching emphasizes teaching theoretical knowledge while ignores cultivating student's artistic virtue, therefore, the teaching accomplishment lags far behind the western countries, Taiwan and Hong Kong in this respect. This paper aims to improve the student's national cultural virtue, manifest regional and ethnic characteristics of art design teaching in colleges and universities and explore solutions and approaches to realizing art design teaching goal of serving regional cultural development.Meanwhile, the exploration and passing down of traditional art and crafts resources can not be realized without art design and teaching in colleges and universities. For this purpose, this paper is of great historical significance. It consists of five parts.Part one:introduction. It analyzes the background and significance of this paper and introduces the paper-related current study situation home and abroad; the general ideas and the study methods of this paper, and lays a solid foundation for the deepening of the following parts.Part two:the categories and characteristics analysis of Guangxi special traditional handicrafts. Firstly, the author takes the ethnical traditional handicrafts as examples, then respectively conducted field investigation on the backing embroidery of Yao nationality in Guo Shan; flowery hat-weaving with bamboo leaves and sawali-weaving in Maonan nationality; silver adornment-making in Dong nationality; the making of sticky cream painting in BaiKu Yao nationality and other special traditional handicrafts and found that traditional handicrafts resources have the characteristics of direct and indirect using value, materiality as well as immateriality, explicitness and taciturnity, all these characteristics are hardly found in the ordinary development resources. The author conducts the researches on the characteristics of traditional handicrafts art from three aspects, namely:cultural characteristics, reflected on traditional handicrafts works; practical characteristics of knowledge and artistry, reflected on the handicrafts maker; the ecological characteristics, reflected in products making process. Researches on these characteristics are the prerequisites of evaluating the utility value of traditional handicrafts resources in art design teaching in colleges and universities.Part three:analysis of traditional handicrafts resources utility value in art design teaching in colleges and universities. At this part, the author mainly focuses on three aspects of values of the traditional handicrafts resources teaching utility after taking art design teaching value concept into consideration. They are the cultural value of immaterial characteristics reflected in traditional handicraft resources; the pragmatic value of its materiality and the creative value of its ecological concept. All these offer theoretical foundation for the exploration method and utility of traditional handicrafts resources in art design teaching in colleges and universities.Part four:methods of exploration and utility of traditional handicrafts resources. The author takes three courses teaching practice in Guangxi Normal University as examples, Basic Design, Design Management and backing Design, then points out that using cultural value is to enrich teaching content, using pragmatic value is to explore teaching methods, and using the creative value concept under the concept of ecology is to organize and enrich the teaching methods on exploration and utility of traditional handicrafts resources.Part five:Conclusion. In this part, the author sums up the contents and viewpoints, deficiencies of this paper and future research direction.The characteristics and innovation of this paper:1. ideas innovation. Although the author emphasizes the importance of traditional handicrafts resources in arts design teaching in colleges and universities, there is no mention of how to introduce the teaching method and the idea of traditional handicraft resources in art design teaching. Though this paper takes teaching practice as cases study to conduct method exploration, large attention need be paid to its academic research.2. New perspective. All the field investigation materials that mentioned in this paper were accumulated by the author in recent years. Many researchers just focus on materials on Han ethnic group culture and that of the minorities groups living in Yunnan, Guizhou and Hunan, while little record was made about the handicrafts of Guangxi which collect both the cultural characteristics of the coastal areas and that of the minority groups. This paper takes the traditional handicrafts in the northern area of Guangxi as the research target to explores and enriches research perspective.
