In the background of modernization, the Uygur Maxlap in Turpan, as traditional folk custom, has been impacted greatly, especially in the context of thriving of Turpan's tourism, the Uygur Maxlap in Turpan is facing both new challenges and opportunities. November 15,2010, Uygur Maxlap has been listed in "The List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding" by UNESCO.
