Due to the deepening of the reform of higher educational system, China's higher education has made rapid development since the reform and opening up 30 years ago. Since the 1990s, in response to the socialist market economy, higher education has changed the training mechanism and raised the tuition fee. It improved school conditions and rising quality enable more and more students to receive higher education, but also increase the number of poor students ---a special group in colleges and universities. According to statistics in 2009, the number of the college students with financial difficulties is about 5.27 million, accounting for 23.06% of the total students, and the number of students with special economic poverty is 166.1 million, accounting for 7.27%.Poor students suffer from the economic pressure, which will inevitably lead to a series of problems, such as those in ideology, health, psychology, and so on. All serve as serious impediments to their development. Managers in the colleges and universities should not only be concerned about their financial difficulties, but also pay more attention to their inner world, helping them build up positive emotions to complete their studies successfully. Therefore, an important part for them to guide and cultivate students is to understand, control, and focus on the mental health of poor students, to provide correct evaluation, and to seek effective ways to solve the problem, and finally educate them to be the physically and mentally healthy socialist builders with ability, integrity, wisdom and passion, which is an important new task of university ideological education. This article starts from the investigation of the mental health of college students who have economic difficulties to find out their mental problems by means of in-depth examples, interviews and scientific analysis, and then put forward some approaches and methods to deal with the problem.
