Since ancient times, in the development of Han nationality culture Western Region has been playing an important role in the process, and the image of Western Region in Han nationality literature is obvious for a long time. Understanding and knowing the different periods of the image and its causes is very important to eliminate the cultural misreading in history, and to implement cultural benign communication. This essay attempts to use the theories and methods about imagology, through the investigation on describing Western Region in Pre-Qin literature, to discuss the overall image of Western Region in the Pre-Qin literature, and analyze the formative causes and its influence of the image in later ages.The article is divided into three chapters:The first chapter mainly introduces the review of research about the image of Western Region in Pre-Qin literature. It is divided into three parts. First, the author analyzes the theory and practice study of imagology in the domestic and foreign development condition, And the author talk about his understanding and knowledge of imagology theory, which provides imagology discipline basis for the study about the image of Western Region. Secondly, the author introduces the basic situation of the Pre-Qin literature and Western Region, and points to the research content and definite range, and also indicates that the main study meaning about image of Western Region in Pre-Qin literature. Finally, the author discusses the specific methods of imagology study about comparative literature by comparing the related research method of Western Region in the past; that mainly includes:internal research of the text, external research of the text, and the overall analysis by combining internal and external research.Chapter 2 is the core part of this thesis. It is divided into three parts, concretely analyzes the image depicted out of Western Region in Pre-Qin literature. According to the specific method of imagology study, The author Begins to inspect the image from some things appeared repeatedly in the vocabulary in Pre-Qin literature about Western Region, such as " Kunlun"," The jade of Kunlun" and " Queen Mother of the West". Secondly the author looks for the image from text described in the hierarchy relationship about Western Region, mainly selects the level relationship about the character, which discusses "Queen Mother of the West" as an example. Finally watches the image from the story plot about Western Region in Pre-Qin literature, concretely analyzes the plots of several stories:"Hou Yi Shoots down Suns", "Lao Zi goes out of the border", "King Mu pilgrimages to the West", "Qu Yuan travels to the West in his mind", and finds that going to the west has become a story pattern in Pre-Qin literature. By the above description of vocabulary, hierarchy relationship and the story going to the west, Western Region is always portrayed as the myth paradise on the whole in Pre-Qin literature, "paradise" become the main image in this period.Chapter 3 is divided into three parts, mainly discusses the image about myth paradise in Western Region and analyzes the main formative reasons and the influence of the image. Firstly this paper specifically analyzes, "Book of Mountains and Seas" as an example. Through comparing the biblical Garden of Eden and the myth paradise in Western Region, the author summarizes the general features of the myth paradise in Western Region. And Combined with other relevant paradise description, the author discusses the myth paradise in Western Region for a cross-cultural study. Then this paper discusses the main formative reason for the image of the myth paradise in Western Region, In short, the produce of the image is closely related the emotional needs of the Pre-Qin people. The formation of western mythology paradise is related closely both western unique topography, geography environment and the western products——the Jade of Kunlun, and the social environment of the Chinese nation at war, the result is a joint action of Western Region and Chinese Han nationality. Finally, the image once forms, it will have far-reaching influence on later generations, and this paper briefly discusses the effects of the image on ancient and today.
