In the Western Countries, the American city suburbanization is typical, and is appreciated by scholars. With the exploration of the American city suburbanization, we would make clear of the general law of urbanization, and learn a lot of experiences and lessons from America. This paper delves into the evolution of American suburbanization, explores its force reasons, analyzes its negatives effects, and furthermost discusses some aspects of American suburbanization which adapt to Chinese urbanization.Chapter 1 copes with the development of city suburbanization in Post-War America and its features. The American suburbanization started originally with the suburbanization of dwelling, and after the Second World War the industrial suburbanization also developed. There are three characteristics in American suburbanization. Firstly, it is seldom interrupted by government, and naturally expands from city center to outskirts. Secondly, it spreads sparsely, with simple functions of suburbs, and long commutation. Thirdly, the development of suburbs in metropolis helps consolidate the metropolises, and also helps use resources efficiently.Chapter 2 deals with the force system of city suburbanization in Post-War America. There are four kinds of forces. One is the development of new means of transportation and traffic methods. Two is the development of economy and the regulation of economical structure. Three is the evolution of main families and life styles. Four is the Federal Policy that encourages suburbanization.Chapter 3 discusses the negative effects of city suburbanization in America after the War. We explore the negative effects from two sides, i.e. from resources circumstances and from human being. With former, the development of suburbs destroys the resources circumstances. With latter, the dwelling of American suburbs is essentially non-human.Chapter 4 explores the adaptation of American suburbanization mode to China. China has its own conditions, and should construct a urbanization road with Chinese characteristics. On the other hand, we can learn much from American mode. Especially, the suburbanization should depend on metropolis, and America's new theories on urbanization are also useful to China.
