Homer's two epics have been acclaimed as the greatest ones in the western literature. Both epics are at the beginning of the western canon of literature and have had an enormous influence on the history of literature.Wrath of Achilles makes up the themes of the Illiad. Compared to Achilles, Odysseus is much more complicated. Odysseus is a combination of the self-disciplined, self-assured man and embodiment of the standards of his culture, so he is the symbol of wisdom.According to Vico's theory, he defines primitive man's mode of thinking as "poetic wisdom". Imagination prevails over rationalism, but, to some extent, it reflects truths. In the anthropomorphic world, Athena always speaks well of his wisdom and shows favor to Odysseus, which indicates western early humanistic thoughts and the hymn for the human wisdom.2001, A Space Odyssey is a science fiction novel by Arthur C. Clarke in 1968. In the first part of the novel, alien race uses a mechamism with the appearance of a large monolith to encourage the development of the primitive intelligent life on the earth. In the following parts of the novel, the book leaps forward to the era of space exploration. The Hal 9000, an artificially intelligent computer, is a vital part of life aboard and actually maintains the spaceship. Hal9000 is so powerful and intelligent that it brings a huge danger to the existence of astronauts abroad.2001, A Space Odyssey explores technological advancement:its promise and its danger. Hal9000 puts forward the question of the perils of technology, which is the byproduct of human wisdom. When we cast our mind on Homer's epic, Odyssey, the wisdom of Odysseus certainly gives us some enlightenment. The poetic wisdom and humanistic thoughts are still attractive to contemporaries. To some extent, reflection of wisdom of Odysseus and Homer' epics shortens our distance from a better future. This paper, based on the connotation of wisdom, attempts to interpret the wisdom of Odysseus. In comparison with Hal9000, this paper endeavors to explore the attraction of wisdom of Odysseus and reflects how to better harness the power of human wisdom.
