The genre of documentary was born to be closely related to history. Having looked back through the process of Chinese documentary development, it is never hard to find that history has played a significant role in its change. However, the history-oriented Chinese documentary has been faced with dramatic challenges while having built great prosperity replendence.Stepping into the 21st century, nevertheless, Chinese historic documentary has released itself from the heavy burden of those challenges and has refined the self perceptive updates as the milestone of its sustainable development. The documentary programs have started to endorse a story-telling narrative, which invigorated the respective boring and serious historic facts, via the important methodology of virtual re-presentation of great historic events. Under the guideline of "New Historicism ", the producers have actively involved themselves in the history itself, and in the producing mode and narrative strategies of documentary making. As the huge technological progress and continuing updates in photography, the chinese historic documentary has successfully met its impressive turn-over during this kind of active adaptation and adjustment. A brand new and much-more-worth-it watching experience has become the greatest experience of most audiences.Positioning the Chinese historic documentary under the perspective of "New Historicism ", this article examines the feature characteristics drawn out through this guideline throughout thousands of years. Within the analytical process, the article tries to explain the reason that "New Historicism " and Chinese historic documentary impacted on each other, and explores the influence of this integration via case studies. The author hopes to draw a creative style of Chinese historic documentary in the view of new historicism, and elaborates its aesthetic meaning; in addition, the author also wants to contribute in enlarging the relative documentary theories, and providing new perspectives from the study of Chinese historic documentary and its relationship with new historicism.
