Taiwan Contemporary Poetic Prose Study

In traditional concept, poetry and prose are two different kinds of literary forms, but from the ancient period to present time, many researchers have found that there are some aesthetic close relations between them. They penetrated each other so that some changes have happened in their respective development; at the same time, it caused a lot of argument about the two literary forms. Until now there are still some scholars who think poetry, novel and drama are superior to prose, but it is noticed that prose has not fallen behind other literary forms, it even has prospered for several times, especially in Taiwan. During the prosperity of prose, the vitality of poetic prose excites many critics'attention. But it is only decades from poetic prose mentioned as a fixed concept. Thus, poetic prose prospers in Taiwan, but the construction of the theory and criticism system about it is relatively backward. Heidegger calls language as"poetic place to live". As a kind of language art, prose should be the"poetic place to live", however, how to find the meeting point between real life sense and poetic? Poetic prose in Taiwan has set an example to answer this question.A lot of poetic proses are created by those who are both poet and prose writer, such as Yu Guangzhong and Yang Mu, there is poetic beauty in their prose. However the poetic prose is not the unique creation of poets. The prose of writers who also write fiction or drama also embodies poetic motion, thought, rhyme and beauty, Zhang Xiaofeng is a representative of this kind of writers. The writers who are specialized in prose often create poetic prose, too, for example, Jian Zhen. Thus this paper focuses on the prose of Yu Guangzhong, Yang Mu, Zhang Xiaofeng, Jian Zhen and Lin Qingxuan. Starting with the discussion about the nature of poetic prose, the paper researches the aesthetic meaning. Then the paper analyzes the writing skills of poetic prose to seek the writing rule of it. At last, the unique aesthetic value of poetic prose is affirmed. It is believed that all of that kind of work will provide some new points of view that can be referred by the contemporary prose writers and critics.
