Spectaclization comes from Latin words "spectae" and "specere", originally referring to an objective scene and scenery which can be visualized. It can also mean a kind of subjective and conscious performance and show. Guy Debord uses this word to generalize the new property of contemporary capitalist society in his eyes, that is, the dominate nature of the contemporary social existence can be displayed as pictures. People lose their desire and requirement for a real life due to their craze for spectaclization, while capitalists manipulate the whole social life by controlling the formation and change of spectacularity.Spectaclization of TV has had a great impact on the contemporary Chinese television. Programs like news broadcasting, entertaining, advertisements, even documentary all feature spectaclization under the influence of the its logic. Strange figures, events and phenomenon are too much to catch people's eyes. It is worth noting whether this trend conforms to the development law of television and how long it can last. This paper believes that for Chinese television, spectaclization is the only way to go. The first reason is that spectaclization agrees with the social cultural characteristic and meets the need of the audience under the impact of the popular culture; besides, it avoids disadvantages brought about by popular culture such as "over entertaining", thus becoming the great force for people to watch TV. In addition, spectaclization is the contradictory embodiment of China's transformation from modern culture to post-modern culture and possesses the characteristics of both, so it conforms to the social culture trend. That spectaclization is a must for Chinese television is also embodied in that it effectively expresses the mainstream ideology in contemporary Chinese society. On the one hand, it is the product of the mainstream ideology and conveys the ideological resorts; on the other hand, its feature enables the mainstream ideology to influence and infect the audience silently, so it is an effective expression of the mainstream ideology and is bond to be accepted by the mainstream society.Spy TV shows are the epitome of television spectaclization and their development proves the fate of spectaclizaiton. Because most of the spy TV shows set the scene in revolutionary wars and the secret working fields after the founding of the country, they are characterized as the defending of mainstream ideology and "representation of contemporary social values". Meanwhile, they typically feature the "dramatization of the conflicts in contemporary society and the way to solve them" due to their type, story and characters, so they belong to typical spectaclization texts. The continuous popularity of spy TV shows has proved that television spectaclization is a must, and their social influence proves the great impact of television spectaclization as well.
