The Great Military And Diplomatic Contribution Made By Zhou Enlai In The Korean War

Zhou Enlai is not only a great proletarian revolutionist,but also a distinguished strategist and diplomatist. During the Korean War, Zhou Enlai was in charge of the routine matters of the Central Military Commission of CPC and the foreign affairs. He participated in the strategic policy to aid North Korea and assist Mao Zedong to direct fight in the war, including drawing up the operational policy and combat plan, arranging the strategic deployment, commanding the battles and going heart and soul into the logistic service for the People's Volunteer Army. At the same time, he developed the omni-bearing diplomatic struggle against America, such as guiding the armistice negotiations, especially solving the problem of repatriating prisoner of war, and eventually bought about the two sides to make the truce agreement. Generally speaking, Zhou Enlai played an important role in the aspects of strategic decision, operational commanding, logistic support and diplomatic negotiation and made great contribution to the victory in the war. The author will strive to elaborate the great contribution made by Zhou Enlai from the military factors and diplomatic factors at the base of literature searching.This paper can be divided into two parts altogether. The former one elaborates the military contribution made by Zhou Enlai, including three chapters. Chapter 1 deals with the strategic policy of Zhou Enlai. Before the war he built the Northeast Frontier Force to protect our country and took part in the decision-making to support DPR Korea militarily. Chapter 2 discusses the battle disposition of Zhou Enlai. After the breaking out of the war, he took part in the making of strategy and commanding important battles. Chapter 3 sets forth the logistic service. Zhou Enlai conducted the logistic support work and laied a solid foundation to the victory of the war. The latter part analyzes the diplomatic role played by Zhou Enlai and consists of two chapters. Chapter 4 relates the omni-bearing diplomatic struggle against U.S. and Chapter 5 expounds Zhou Enlai's directing armistice negotiation and solving the problem of repatriating prisoner of war, which supporting the military struggle and opening up a new prospect of the diplomatic affairs of PRC. Zhou Enlai made unremitting efforts to the truce agreement and played a great role in the Korean War.
