Publicart And Public Life In Nanjing

Under the impact of economic and cultural globalization,urban construction step hasquicken continuously, and public art, as a new and independent subject also set foot intothe Chinese contemporary design field of vision. However, academic and design circlesjust focused on public art itself, that is to say, a lot research work has carried out withesthetics as dominant factor of artistic form, such as sculpture, mural painting, etc, butlack of study leading by functional artistic form, such as outdoor furniture, architecture,etc, and inquire into the public art planning is very few. Consequently, there aremultitudes of strange, exaggerated and so-called public art in recent years, but deficientin public art and rational layout that can satisfy users' demand.With consideration of above problems, the paper taking the public art and public life asmajor research objects, and combining public art with public life that devotes to suitablemodel of human settlement, discusses how public art affects modern people's public life,and how improve quality of public life by public art's urging people to remain,communicate and participate.To start with public, the paper explored impacts between public art and public life, andtried to dig real appealing and suitable life. And then, it probes into how guide people toenter and remain in a public space through reasonable planning of public art. Besides,based on the usage study of public art, the paper presented pointed redesign direction.In addition, taking the Nanjing Forestry University outdoor seat system as an example,in-depth research and experimental design were conducted. Finally, the papersummarized the problems of Chinese public art, and put forward some feasiblesuggestions in consideration of human beings, designers and urban managers.By means of case collection and investigation of Nanjing, Nanjing Forestry University,Shanghai, Hangzhou, and combined with a great number of date and statisticaldiagrams, the research effectively reveals human beings' feelings and needs for publicart and life, making the result more reliable and forceful.The paper aims to lead designers and policy makers really concern about people's life,and think seriously about the public art and public life, so as to step forward the ultimateaim of "taking humans as essentials". Hope in the future, China can build more cities wedo care and proud of.
