Contrastive Analysis Of The Person Deixis In Russian And Chinese

Deixis is universal among all languages. Person deixis is an integral part of deixisas well as a major research subject of pragmatics study. Person deixis is to connectpeople involved in the verbal communication and indicates certain relationship betweenthem. In practical applications, person deixis is greatly influenced by psychologicaldistance and language environment. Even the same person deixis may refer to differentmeanings due to different language environments and different psychological distancesbetween the two sides of communication. Therefore, scholars are always concernedwith the person deixis problems and dedicate themselves to its research from differentperspectives.For both Chinese and Russian, the usage of person deixis are quite complex.Therefore, the research of them becomes quite important. This study, throughcontrastive analysis, summarizes the similarities and differences in the use of persondeixis between the two languages, explores the principles of person deixis'useintercultural communication, deepens the understanding of the universal relationbetween languages and enriches the language expression of commonality of thinking soas to promote the teaching of Russian.Firstly, relative theories of deixis and person deixis are comprehensivelyintroduced. Then, a contrastive analysis of person deixis in both Russian and Chineseindicates that in spite of the simplicity of person deixis and the fact that there are moresimilarities than differences in practical applications, there lies another fact that inspecific context, the pragmatic meanings are rather complicated and the individualdifferences are quite clear. The reasons for individual differences in Russian andChinese mainly result from different cultural backgrounds of the two nations anddifferent ethnic psychologies. As a result, the study and use of person deixis must be closely combined with itscontext so as to better appreciate its rich pragmatic connotations. In the meantime, thestudy of communicative intentions and communicators relations will provide a betteraccess to pragmatic meanings of person deixis.
