Cultural Tourism Development Potential Evaluation Study

Cultural tourism is a unique subset of tourism with its flexibility, sustainability, high participation of tourists, and intensiveness of culture. Thanks to these features, it has gained popularity in recent years. At present time, there have been few theories on the measurement of values of cultural heritage in tourism. In spite of substantial interest in cultural tourism, researches on its potential have been lacking.This thesis reviews publications on cultural tourism both in China and abroad and provides analysis on cultural tourism in Quanzhou City. The thesis exhausts all tourism resources in Quanzhou both at national level and provincial level and divides these resources into four categories and 9 subcategories which are subdivided into 19 units. The author employs Delphi method,AHP method and comprehensive evaluation, under the help of expert interviews and a questionnaire, constructs cultural tourism resources development potential evaluation index system of Quanzhou. And then the author applies SPSS, MATLAB and Excel to do a calculation and comprehensive rating for the factor layer 20 of specific indicators. After detailed study of the result of comprehensive evaluation and analysis of current tourism in Quanzhou through SWOT, the thesis concludes that Quanzhou enjoys advantages in cultural value, scenery, transportation, and accommodation, while it is underdeveloped in geographical integration, ecological protection, management, and exploration conditions. Based on these observations, this thesis puts forward five proposals in an attempt to provide possible solutions to the problems.The related research of this thesis about the potential measure of the cultural tourism development is conductive to rich the resources evaluation system of tourism, promote the sustainable development of the cultural tourism, guide the future cultural tourism planning of Quanzhou, promote the rational development and protection of the cultural tourism Wish the research of this thesis can do some help for the development of the cultural tourism of Quanzhou.
