This paper studies the grammatical differences between the Chinese language in Malaysia (Huayu) and China (Putonghua), and gives a general overview of the grammatical phenomenon in Malaysian Chinese language. This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is introduction. This chapter defines the several concepts discussed in the paper, describes the Chinese language usage and the Chinese educational system in Malaysia, summarizes the early works done on the related topics, and explains the significance of the research.The second and third chapters are the main content of this paper. Examples are presented, the grammatical differences between the Chinese language in Malaysia and China are compared and analyzed, and factors contributing to the differences are discussed. The second charpter discusses about accidence and is divided into the following parts:variations in syntactical function, words of reduplicated form, affixes, function words, and ways of enumerating numbers. The third chapter discusses about syntax and comprises of the following parts:the tenses, collocation, ellipsis, word order and sentence type.The fourth chater summarizes and elaborates the factors that contribute to the grammatical differences between the Chinese language in Malaysia and China.Finally is the conclusion of the study.
