The comparison between Chinese and Western art is an important part of China art theory research field and as a result of different worldview and philosophical system, Chinese and Western paintings inevitablely have their unique esthetic characteristic in the material selection, composition of a picture, the language of drawing and expressing intention. So does building female image.Both Chinese Wei-Jin period and the Renaissance in the west are cultures diffusion at the peak. The theme"human being"in these two different times produced the same consonance and the art works in these two periods started to care about people's existence rather than god's affection. As the artists in these two periods, Gu Kaizhi and Botticelli which are elites of them have a significant impact to the contemporary age and history: the painting work"The Portrait of The Nymph of River Lo"by Gu Kaizhi opened up the Chinese painting of Beautiful Women in which the unique female characteristic such as fine eyebrow, soft waistline and red lips makes a significant influence to Chinese female depiction of all ages; the female image in the painting work"The Birth of Venus"by Botticelli is also a representative work during the transition of era and the transformation of people's thought. Started from the Renaissance, the female image in the picture no longer concerned about the mythical subject and gradually transferred into the depiction of secular woman."The Birth of Venus"happened to be the representative work in this transition period so the picture of this work is littered with human's vitality and owns God's halo.Besides, though both of these two works depict the female image, they bring the viewers totally different aesthetic images: a god for saken fetching nymph and a pure ideal goddess Venus. The beauty of the Nymphs of River Lo originates from the resignation for the loss of love between human being and spirit, which made people feel the inexhaustible beauty of the tender affection. The beauty of Venus comes from the sense of loss and melancholy behind the perfect stature and the na?ve face, which can purify our soul. Both women possess the similar dejected temperament. Then, this text tastes the different perceptions of time and space in Chinese and western painting view by the comparison of the linellae depiction of these two works. Finally, this text extends further to the esthetics aspect to comprehend the imagery and Performance characteristic in Chinese and Western paintings represented by these two kinds of female images and how to interpret different aesthetic connotations by artists'emotional recombination.In the long history of China and West artistic development, two kinds of women with a strong sense of the times were portrayed on the canvas after the painter's emotional reconsideration. We can feel the aesthetic characteristics of different times and different nations through the nonverbal language of the painting. They represented two different feminine charms: one is implicative, another is enthusiastic, and both of them are the incontrovertible symbols of beauty. One is mild and delicate, another is fascinating and intoxicating. They are like a cup of tea and a cup of coffee, which interpret the sorrow and sweetness of life respectively.
