Amendment Of Mental Health Evaluation Scale For Chinese Nuclear Power Plant Operators

Objective:The aim of this study was to explore the intra-structure of mental health and develop a mental health scale for Chinese nuclear power plant operators. We Used this scale to conduct a preliminary study of mental health characteristics of Chinese nuclear power plant operators.Methods:(1)Based on the experience of twenty years, a scale for the Chinese nuclear power plant operators'mental health specially was compiled in this paper through revising Cattell's 16 Personality Factor(16PF), Minnseota Multipahsic Personality Inventory(MMPI), A type of behaviour questionnaire and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ)which were Widely applied at home and abroad.The way of sample was claster random sampling. The reliability analysis included the mean inter-item correlation, Cronbach'sα, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability. The validity analysis included content, construct, and criterion-related validity.(2)Independent-Sample T Test , Least-Significant Difference and One-Way ANOVA were used to analysis the date.Results:(1)The initial preparation of the scale: Through the item analysis, the mental health scale of Chinese nuclear power plant operators consisted of 280 items. The subscales'Cronbach'sαcoefficient, split-half and test-retest coefficients ranged from 0.62 to 0.86, 0.61 to 0.85, 0.57 to 0.84. The stability factor was significant negative correlation with MMPI's all dimensions in addition to masculine feminine. The excitatory factor was significant negative correlation with MMPI's all dimensions except for hypochondriasis, paranoia, manic. The factor of anxiety, tensity, hypochondria, mental health were significant positive correlation with MMPI's all dimensions. The psychiatric patients had more psychological problems than the nuclear power plant operators.(2)The preliminary analysis of the scale:The results of analysis of demographic variable:①Sex difference studies showed that the scores of gregariousness, excitatory, sensitive, fantasy, introvert and extrovert in male operators were significantly higher than those female students(P<0.05 or P<0.01).②Operators of different age showed significant differences on excitatory, immutability, courage, sensitive, harmony, anxiety, independence, tensity, hypochondriasis, introvert and extrovert, mental health(P<0.05 or P<0.01).③Operators of different position showed significant differences on excitatory, immutability, courage, sensitive, harmony, anxiety, independence, tensity, hypochondria, masculine feminine, introvert and extrovert, coward and decision, mental health, creativity(P<0.05 or P<0.01).④Operators of different education's significant difference came from gregariousness, intelligent, independence, falseness, introvert and extrovert, creativity(P<0.05 or P<0.01).⑤Married operators showed more problems on excitatory, immutability, courage, sensitive, harmony, anxiety, independence, tensity, hypochondria, masculine feminine, introvert extrovert, emotional and calm alertness, coward and decision, mental health(P<0.05 or P<0.01).⑥Length of service difference were found in excitatory, immutability, courage, sensitive, harmony, anxiety, independence, tensity, hypochondria, introvert extrovert, coward and decision, mental health, creativity(P<0.05 or P<0.01).The screening of mental ill-health: Eliminating failed papers, among the 1127 nuclear power plant operators, 392 of them had excellent state of mental health, the percentage was 34.69%; 521 of them had good state of mental health, the percentage was 46.23%; 192 of them had qualified state of mental health, the percentage was 17.04%; Only 22 of them had poor state of mental health ,the percentage was 1.95%. The main problem was unstable emotion, bad life skills, not positive attitude, strong creativity, concern for their own health, venturesome and dare to, no sense of responsibility, anxiety and tension, spiritual and mental can't relaxation and steady state.Conclusion:We have developed the mental health scale of Chinese nuclear power plant operators, which meet the requirement of psychological scale. Validity and reliability were investigated and the scale of Chinese nuclear power plant operators could be used to investigate mental health of nuclear power plant operators. The preliminary analysis showed that mental health of most nuclear power plant operators is good. The results of analysis of demographic variable meet the actual situation.
