With the development of intercultural communication, the majority of foreign language researchers and educators are increasingly aware of the importance of cultivating students'intercultural communication competence, and finally confirm cultivating student's intercultural communication competence as the ultimate aim of foreign language teaching. However, how to cultivate students'intercultural communication competence effectively, and how to deal with pragmatic failure during the intercultural communication process while students having a good master of language and grammar of target language, eventually leading to the failure of communication. Based on the above, some scholars proposed a solution to the problem of cultivating students'cultural empathy competence.Cultural empathy competence is the most important component and core content in the system of intercultural communication competence, and it is a key element which directly affects the quality, effect and process of intercultural communication. Only by improving cultural empathy competence can we go through the communication obstacles to an effective communication.In order to effectively enhance the non-English majors'cultural empathy competence, this thesis is on the basis of previous research and tries to make use of a new teaching model to improve its effectiveness of cultivating students'cultural empathy competence by teaching experiment. This research investigated eighty non-English students of 2008 from Heilongjiang University by questionnaires, social-cultural proficiency test and case interview. In the end, the author arrives a conclusion that culture teaching can improve students'cultural empathy competence.All in all, this thesis is just a first attempt to apply the cultivation of Cultural empathy competence into specific English teaching. The author hopes that this attempt could play a role in cultivating cultural empathy competence. As we all know, improving students'cultural empathy competence is not accomplished in one single day, so the author will do further research about this subject.
