Bowman Modern Thought

In the debate of modernity, Bauman's modernity is unique. The events and issues as an entry point to his modernity, the post-modernity is the frame of reference, and he uses a variety of metaphors to analyze and criticize the modernity. In this paper, I analyse the sources of thoughts of Bauman's modernity, describe the development and performance of crisis of modernity, and on this basis discuss Bauman's analysis, critique and re-explain of modernity. Bauman considered that the development of modernity in 20th century was a failure, he explained the relationship between modernity and the big massacre, revealed the dilemma between the pursuit of order and the inherent contradiction, pointed the indifferent moral and pluralism under the modern bureaucracy, opened the post-modernity perspective to rethink the modernity, and he found the defect of post-modernity. In his view, if modernity is a trap, post-modernity is a minefield, but since the post-modernity had no way to go, we had to explore the post-modernity without turning back, so he proposed the"liquid-modernity"to re-explain the modernity. At last, I point out the limitations of Bauman's modernity and the significance for development of China's society.
