Ren Jiyu Editor Of The "history Of Chinese Philosophy" (four Volumes) System Of Thought And Its Historical Status

Ren Jiyu, a famous philosopher, scholar in religious studies and historian, had dedicated himself to research on history of Chinese Buddhism and history of Chinese philosophy, from materialistic view of history. As one of founders of Marxist philosophical history of China, he had done a lot of pioneering work in this field. Mr. Ren Jiyu's life achievements are mainly shown in two"firsts"after the liberation of new China: he edited the first A History of Chinese Philosophy (4 vols.) as the editor in chief, which is a representative of research on history of Chinese philosophy from the perspective on Marxism; he was also the first scholar who studied Buddhism from perspectives of Marxist philosophy, historical materialism and Marxist religious studies theories.A History of Chinese Philosophy (4 vols.), edited by Mr. Ren Jiyu, not only initiated the research after liberation on history of Chinese philosophy from Marxist stand, viewpoint and methods in a systematical way, but also enriched greatly research methods on history of Chinese philosophy, which made the 4 volumes a milestone in research on history of Chinese philosophy. Essence of Sinicization of Marxism is to combine common Marxist theories to Chinese social practice. The Chinese can not accept Marxist philosophy without traditional Chinese way of thinking. Therefore, two levels in understanding Sinicization of Marxism must be contained: traditional Chinese philosophical thinking comprehended from the perspectives of Marxist Dialectical materialism and historical materialism; and then, a Marxist theory with Chinese characteristics, or Sinicized Marxism formed. In this sense, it must be admitted that A History of Chinese Philosophy (4 vols.), edited by Mr. Ren Jiyu, really laid a solid foundation in the aspect of thinking for Sinicization of Marxism.Of course, it is also stated in this paper that great works on history of thoughts, composed in a certain period of history, is inevitably branded with marks of that period, with the result of limitations due to time reasons. This is obviously shown in A History of Chinese Philosophy (4 vols.), edited by Mr. Ren Jiyu. However, historical status of these 4 volumes in modern Chinese history of thoughts can never be concealed even a little by such limitations.
