The essay studies the contrast between the Chinese and English common sayings. At first, it studies the concept, origin and fundamental features of common sayings of these two languages. And compared the conceptual meaning and connotative meaning of the two common saying from the standpoint of classification of meaning type. Then compared the common saying's linguistic form and inner rhetoric mode from the standpoint of formation pattern. At last it studies the semantics, stylistics and culture of common sayings of two languages from the standpoint of expression style. According to the studies of these chapters, It proves and sums up the sameness and differences of two common sayings of two languages by many examples from the expression effects. The essay uses the comparative analysis to sum up the features of two common sayings, and observes many corpus and documents to reach my conclusion, which proves that there are many differences between the two common sayings in forms and contents. Finally, I hope the essay can help us master the sameness and differences of these two common sayings'expressions and cultures better. The essay can help us avoid the communicative barrier and promote the development of intercultural communication.
