Saint Boniface, previously known by the name of Winfrid, was one of the outstanding missionaries from England in the first half of the eighth century.Boniface had more than one status. As a missionary, he devoted his life to the conversion of the Germany,included Frisia, Saxon, Hesse, Thuringia and Bavaria,with the achievements beyond his predecessors.As a monk, he found many monastries and monastic schools as missionary,cultural and education centers,and he brought Benedict rules into the mainland from England again, promoting the Carolingian Renaissance.As a Church reformer, he put the German churches directly under the authority of the Holy See and restored the order of the Frankish Church.As a papal envoy, he promoted the contacts between the two greatest powers in the West,the Frankish secular rulers of and the Pope.In a word,Boniface affected the trend of historical development of the Middle Ages in Western Europe.Based on historical especially original materials,using the methods of induction,integration and synthesis,this paper studied Saint Boniface from the angles of religion,society,politics,and culture.It started with the time of Saint Boniface,mainly the political and cutrural conditions of England,Frank and Rome, meanwhile the situation of missionary on western continental Europe also described;Then the life experience of Saint Boniface: the first half peaceful life in England and the the latter half magnificent life on western continental Europe;Finally,as the key,the paper studied the thoughts of Saint Boniface, including missionary thoughts and diplomatic strategy;A brief comment on Saint Boniface were given in the end.
