After the fall of the Western Roman Empire,in the face of the chaotic political situation in Western Europe,neither the Franks nor the Christian church had enough power and influence to become a single power group.Secular monarchs are confronted with a difficult problem of the legitimacy of the ruling regime,and the Christian Church urgently needed military aid to fight the Lombard and the Byzantine Empire.For the sake of political interests and their own long-term development,the Franks and the Christian church began to build a partnership of political.Moreover,during the Carolingian period,the Franks' secular monarchs and the Christian church finally established a solid union of church and state under the link of Christian anointed coronation.This paper attempts to take the political cooperation between the secular monarchs and the church in the early Middle Ages as the breakthrough point,and combining the social and economic factors at that time,to explore the establishment process of the political alliance between the Franks' secular monarchs and the Christian church under the influence of the oil coronation ceremony,and then explains the specific political connection between the secular monarch and the Christian Church in the 5th to 9th century A.D.The dissertation is divided into four chapters:The first chapter probes into the religious origin of the anointed coronation.This chapter tries to show that,as a traditional religious ceremony with a long history,anointing not only had its specific religious significance in the Western Roman Empire,but also had an important influence on the perfection and finalization of anointed coronation in the early middle ages.The second chapter mainly discusses the changes of the political situation after the fall of the Western Roman Empire in Western Europe,and the political problems faced by Western Christian Church and Franks' secular monarchs in this situation,to reflect the background and main motivation of this political alliance.The third chapter discusses the specific establishment process of the political alliance between the Franks' secular monarchs and the Christian church 1nder the influence of the oil coronation ceremony.This chapter mainly describes the political cooperation between the four famous rulers of the Kingdom of Frank and the church,to show the specific role of Christian "divine teachings" in the establishment process of the political alliance between the Franks' secular monarchs and the Christian church.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the political significance of the anointed coronation ceremony to the alliance between the Franks' secular monarchs and the Christian church,and through the description of the status of the anointed coronation ceremony,to reveal the profound relationship between the ceremony and the political environment in the 5th to 9th centuries.
