In the recent years, more and more Korean students begin to learn Chinese. The Seventh Educational Curriculum in Korea has been passed to offer Chinese lessons in senior high school and set Chinese for the second language in Korea so as to make students know how to use Chinese in daily life and to cultivate the basic social abilities. However, owing to great academic pressure for entering university, the Korean high school students have no much time and energy to study Chinese which is an optional course. Therefore, many of them lack of motivation and passion to learn Chinese. This thesis, in the light of the current situation of Chonju Female High School of Korea, studies the teaching methods of Chinese phonetics from the perspective of stimulating learning motivation, and tries to find out the most suitable teaching strategy of Chinese phonetics for Korean students.The thesis is divided into four chapters, the content of which is as follows:The first chapter talks about the study background, the significance of the selected topic, the study methods, as well as the main points. Literature review includes the relative studies on learning motivation and teaching strategies, the studies of Chinese phonetics teaching methodology and the relative studies in China, the relative studies on intonation teaching, and the study and analysis of Chinese phonetic teaching methods in Korea as well.The second chapter lays out the basic theories of learning motivation and Chinese phonetic teaching methodology by means of listing the methods of how to motivate students and the principles of Chinese phonetic teaching, namely, systematicness, pertinency, imitativeness, and basic.The third chapter thoroughly analyses the current situation of the Chinese phonetic teaching in Korean high school through the analysis of curriculum provision and phonetic teaching conditions, in addition to the survey designing and implementation, interviews with teachers and some typical students, and the questionnaire analysis.The fourth chapter, based on the interviews and questionnaire, is about the phonetic teaching strategy design following the methods of stimulating motivation and principles of Chinese phonetic teaching. The teaching design includes phoneme teaching, syllable teaching, and voice stream teaching and the teaching case designs.
