National School Arts Education Development Program (2001-2010) clarified, "Art teachers should make full use and development of the art resources in their own regions and domestic nations, emphasizing the study and application of modern educational technology and methods, gradually realizing the modernization and diversification of teaching methods, expanding the dimensions of arts education, consequently, improving the quality of art teaching." National School Arts Education Development Program pointed out the direction of higher education in art. The emphasis on folk art could help to develop cultural diversity as well as the exploit and use of Chinese folk art and resources. China has a long cultural history, and also has a long rich folk art and other art forms together to build Chinese aesthetic ideology. Only in the way of the participation of folk art, which could Chinese art education develop in a healthy and comprehensive way. Therefore, folk art would hold the value of cultural diversity. Folk art education curriculum is the foundation and root of modern art education, which promotes the spreading of all-round development education at school and is an integral part of modernization of art education. Thus, the use and implementation of folk art resources in universities would generate great significance in general art teaching. Henan Huaiyang Clay Dog in China has a long history as an important Chinese folk art, still having a special significance today. In this paper, taking Huaiyang Clay Dog as an example, the teaching purpose of local culture was explored and discussed to perceive the cultural tradition, as well as adding similar courses in colleges and universities. The author taked Henan Huaiyang Clay Dog as an example to introduce the folk art, and through a series of preliminary research, presented some methods and steps of the use and implementation in course teaching process.Before drafting the paper, the author carried out field research on folk temple fair, customs and beliefs, Clay Dog artists and other aspects of production processes, via exploring into folk art resources and focusing on Huaiyang Clay Dog, in order to get a comprehensive and complete understanding from living folk culture, collect and integrate first-hand information, hold the theme of thesis, combine theory and practice and grasp the core to discuss via educational theories. The first part, Introduction describes the content, social background, literature review, research method and research significance of the study. The second part is a summary of the discussion, which introduces the origin of Huaiyang Clay Dog and historical and cultural background and artistic value and craftsmanship. The third part discusses the significance of the subject, and how to use and implement Clay Dog in art teaching of colleges and universities. The fourth part summarizes the article. From the above analysis, the heritage of historical and cultural background and values of Huaiyang Clay Dog are sketched out, as well as how to generate and develop this culture through classroom in colleges and universities.
