Literary translation is connected with a variety of factors such as culture, religion, history, politics and psychology. Furthermore translation activity is the confrontation, negotiation and integration between two different languages and cultures and is in pursuit of the perfectly aesthetic effects of the target version. Literary translation is the aesthetic process and it functions as conveying the aesthetic feeling and effects of literary. The ultimate purpose is to realize the aesthetic representation of literary works. Fortress Besieged is a novel which contains rich cultural connotations and is also the only novel written by the well-known scholar Qian Zhongshu. The language and figures of speech are glamorous and stunning; especially the metaphors are dotted throughout the whole text. These metaphors not only contain a wealth of information, but also have unique artistic effects. Therefore, the translation of metaphor is an indispensable part of the novel. The reasonable and suitable translation of metaphor plays a fundamental role in the conveyance of the characteristics and fate of the protagonists and in the deepening of the plot; however, it is constrained by social and cultural differences. Many scholars have discussed this issue and presented their recommendations or suggestions, but rarely have people focused specifically on the representation of metaphor from the perspective of translation aesthetics. Therefore, it is necessary to break through the traditional research methods and make a comprehensive study and analysis.The traditional aesthetics is put into translation practice by Professor Liu Miqing, which witnesses the development of modern Chinese translation aesthetics. In terms of the translation aesthetics theory in Liu Miqing's book, literary translation is a reproduction of the art of language and the translation of aesthetic sense, it is also the process of aesthetic experience and aesthetic representation. Then aesthetic representation is the necessary stage of aesthetic activity which is guided under the principles of comprehension, transformation, improvement and representation. Aesthetic representation of literary translation is constructed on the basis of the understanding of aesthetic object; it is also the last stage of aesthetic experience which is the embodiment of the skill and ability of the translator. Mainly relying on the theory mentioned above, a tentative study on the translation of metaphor in Fortress Besieged is studied. The study of the translation of metaphor can broaden into the scope of aesthetics or psychology etc. instead of solemnly confining into the level of rhetoric. The course of translation aesthetics and the relevant principles of aesthetic representation are explicitly elaborated. What's more, plenty of metaphors are picked out with a view to clarifying the main arguments. Thereafter the aesthetic representation in the novel is discussed with contrast of the artistic effects in the source and target text. In addition, the translation aesthetics plays a dominant role in the process of specific analysis and discussion and it is hoped that people's attention can be shifted to the shortcomings in deepening the realization of aesthetic representation so as to help the readers to get more and more sense of beauty and pleasure, and thus enrich the researches and outcome concerning aesthetics and figures of speech.
