| Liu Miqing is a contemporary famous Chinese translator who has been engaged in translation work for a long period. He mainly focuses on the translation theory and practice, and he wrote a lot of translation related books. Liu Miqing’s translation aesthetics theory reflects its unique characteristics of translation theory. Translation aesthetics is one of the great features of translation theories in Chinese translation theories. First of all, the process of translation is considered as an aesthetic process. The process of translation aesthetics is also a cross-cultural communication language. Secondly, the aesthetic subject in translation plays an important role in the process of translation as well as the aesthetic object. Lastly, linguistic aesthetics of translation includes formal system and non-formal system that play the important role in translation.Translation activities can not be separated from the choice of words and phrases, which is an art in translation. "Representation" is the process of converting the source language(SL) to the target language(TL). Meanwhile, the aesthetic subject should put all the aesthetic activities into the translation. The essence of "aesthetic representation" is the aesthetic experience "materialization". Because of this, the function of translation aesthetics is to ensure that the meaning of the original text can be embodied in the translation activities. Moreover, translation aesthetics can also convey emotions in translation activities.Fortress Besieged is a work of Mr. Qian Zhongshu. The translation of Fortress Besieged by Ms. Jeanne Kelly and Mr. Nathan K. Mao is the only English version. The hero in the English version of Fortress Besieged has its own distinctive features. What’s more, Fang Hung-chien’s language description in the translation has its own unique characteristics.In the present research, the author attempts to study the aesthetic representation of the English version of Fortress Besieged from the perspective of translation aesthetics, focusing on the characteristics of Fang Hung-chien’s language description. Through the translation of the language in the form of aesthetic system the author studies the decoding of aesthetic symbols. The research methods used in this paper are literature research, case study, comparative analysis, and inductive method. In the translation of language description of Fang Hung-chien, the author mainly discusses the following aspects:the first part is the word level, the second part is the expression level and the last part is the sentence level. The purpose and significance of this research is to make readers appreciate the English version of Fortress Besieged by the aesthetic representation in the English version of Fortress Besieged. In addition, the present research is expected to make due contribution to the translators, hoping to arouse the further understanding of the translator’s aesthetic representation. |
