Space, which likes time, is the important dimension for human to perceive the world. In the short history of modernity, however, due to its superiority compared to space,time have always taken in the dominant position of social development, the modernity have became time history, space was ignored by many modern theorists. The enlightenment and Descartes type's space concept take space as an objective and even domain that different from the main body, and Kant take space as an empty box where human action spread in. From the late of 20th century, Harvey perceived some kinds of postmodern changes and fracture from capitalist political-economic system shift, and from then, theory analysis and generalizations on the change and fracture are beginning. Based on historical materialism position, Harvey, started from new spatio-temporal experience which initiated by capitalist transformation of the late of 20th century, to understand and analysis the nature of capitalism through the space transfer theory, put forward the history-geographic materialist thoughts, in order to rich marxism. This article was divided into three parts to discuss the connotation of space transfer theory by Harvey, analyze his criticism on capitalism and the modernism, moreover, the significance of theory of space transfer for the development of historical materialism.The first chapter:The basic content and ideological background of Harvey's space transfer theory, and the important effect of space transfer on capitalist development were mainly discussed. At first, this chapter discussed the spatial dimension of capital accumulation and class struggle, which under the background of globalization, moreover, and described the space and time in social life in order to highlight material contact between the political economic and cultural process.Chapter 2:Analyzes the theory of dimensional shift Harvey, the paper discusses modernist space-time.Firstly, challenges the understanding of the meaning of history and geography by the modernism philosophy; Secondly, formed a kind of temporal and spatial meaning's fundamental adjustment on economic, political and cultural life; Thirdly, challenges the monetary fetishism, and stressing the conflict between the existence and form at the same time.Chapter 3:Mainly focus on the new opinions and recognizations of historical materialism by Harvey. Mainly treated on man's existence, practice, knowledge and political reality from geographical spatial perspective. Harvey stood in the side of historical materialist, analyzes the change of political, economic and cultural in late twentieth century capitalism,with the help of time and space compression concept, and realized the deep difficultiesin confronted with by our era to a certain extent.
