In Chinese paint world, realism ink and water portrait figures is livingness and absorbing. One hand, the history reason of ink and water paint makes permanent ideas that ink and water was first. The particularly expressive force of thing such as pen,ink and rice paper makes ink and water paper become alias of Chinese paint. On the other hand, the Chinese paint became more and more modern in the past century, the weakness of ink and water paint history consistent makes it has more developing room today. The New Culture happing inThe 20th raised prelude of Chinese paint reformation , the traditional ink and water paint still was developing, but the most important things was modern ink and water paint that had realism characteristic. Development of the realism ink and water portrait figure had three stages, The first stage, it had limited by the expressive of light and shadow .The second stage, it raised on transform of pen,ink structure . Last, it had a visual structure morphology and ink schemata that had realism ink and water character. 20th ink and water portrait figures had developed and perfected self portrait language using modern ideas, basing itself and referring of the west realize paint ideas and plastic arts .This paper describes art works of Li Boan and Yuan wu's, who were famous portrait painters. In order to find their Artistic ideas and creation rules, and guide our creation, compared their different and same in art works. In the end, paper drew a ruler that developing of Chinese ink and water paint must respect ink paintings law of development, bases on the Chinese traditional spirit and absorb western painting strengths.The innovation of this paper was describing the realistic painting development process from The 20th century to contemporary by comparing ink and water portrait figures of Li Boan and Yuan Wu's. Based on the theory, try to find the consistency between traditional spirit and context of contemporary art, so that it could give a feasibility help for creation of contemporary realistic paintings.
