Abstract/Summary:
Bing Xin offered a typical example of modern female intellectual with her literature career, family life and social activities. Her ideal self-construal was built by unceasing self-reflection. The paper studies Bing Xin's life experiences and literature career from 1919 to 1951, based on self-identity theory of Anthony Giddens. It takes Bing Xin's multiple identities during the phase as cut-in point, and stands on basic value orientation to show her life track of self-identity, self-regulation and self-fulfillment. The paper has two parts. In part one, it discusses the foundation, trunk, multi-variation of Bing Xin's identity from 1919 to 1929. Part two focuses on splendid changes of her identity from 1929 to 1951, when she became wife and mother. Moreover, it also analyzes the universal meaning of Bing Xin's self-identity example to modern female intellectual amidst the transformation from tradition to modern time, and the inevitable age limitation of her self-identity example.
