The Analytic Record of Poems of the Qing Dynasty, which is selected by Shen Deqian, a litterateur of the Qianlong Period in Qing Dynasty, is a record of dynastic poems of the early and middle Qing Dynasty. Based on the version reedited in the 25th year of the Qianlong, as well as on the research results of former worthies, from the angles of both literary value and literature value, by using comparison analysis, quantitative analysis, and literature review, together with empirical study as the primary method and logical reasoning as the secondary method, the present essay analyzed this record from the following four aspects.Firstly, this thesis went through and compared the Primary Edition, the Second Edition and the Authorized Edition. And then the author analyzed the reasons for the existence of these three editions. Finally, this essay based the research results of former worthies, made some original analysis of the collection style of this record.Secondly, this thesis studied the very fact that editors were greatly influenced by their own poetic thoughts about the ranges of poems to be selected, the amounts of poems, as well as the contents of the poems. Keeping this fact in mind, the author analyzed the editor of this record discussed in this paper, Shen Deqian's poetic thoughts from three aspects, namely poetic ethics, emulating poetry of Tang and innovation ideology.Thirdly, Shen Deqian made some changes about the poems when he was editing this record. This present thesis commented on the changes in three aspects, which were the titles, the poets'names, and the contents of the poems. Then this paper further discussed the reasons for these changes, which were: (1) people making errors when spreading the poems; (2) Shen making errors when editing the record; (3) Shen making the changes for the consideration of politics and arts. To be specific, political aspects included avoiding political taboo and public decency; artistic aspects referred to gentleness, implicitness, elegancy of expressions, the beauty of poetic styles, and so on.Lastly, ever since printed, this record has aroused fierce arguments among poetry critics through the history. These critics held different views on this record, whether approving or criticizing. Despite these arguments, there is no doubt that this record has great value both in literary and literature. It compiled and saved enormous valuable literary materials. Besides, it also reflected the overall outlook of the development of poetry, and the characteristics of each poetry schools in the early and middle Qing Dynasty. What's more, this record has had a far-reaching influence on the following generations in many ways, such as collection compling and literary acquisition.
