In the procedure of TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages), the teacher will often employ some English words to explain some Chinese words, in order to simplify the procedure and help the students (esp. with their mother language English) to learn much easier. However, English and Chinese are in different language families, and they have different ways to make a word or to grasp the meaning of a word. Therefore, the similar English words and Chinese words have always had some differences in meaning, which will of course influence more or less in the learning procedure of the students. This paper aims to analyze the influence of meaning differences between Chinese words and English words in TCSOL, by analyzing the differences in making a word and grasping the meaning of a word between Chinese words and English words with examples initially. Then, by employing more examples, this paper will analyze the influences of meaning differences in three main branchs of TCSOL, compiling a textbook, teaching in class and students' learning. Eventually, this paper will give applying strategies to positive influences and tackling strategies to negative influences, in order to let the author compile the textbook in a more precise way and let the teacher teach the class in a more convenient way by comparing a Chinese word to a similar English word. There will also be some periodic suggestions for the students.
