With the speed economic development and the international position improvingof China, learning Chinese has become the tide of the world. Textbook is the basis ofteaching and learning, study on the TCSOL(Teaching Chinese to Speakers of OtherLanguages) textbooks is one of the key subjects among the world of TCSOL.Mediating language plays an important role in the most of TCSOL textbooks forrelieving teachers’stress and helping students to grasp the language points. Nowadays,English has become the world language, against this background, the mediatinglanguage in TCSOL textbooks is predominated by English. The main subject of thisessay is the English translation or annotation in TCSOL textbooks. As the widecomprehension and the high use frequency of “jiu”in Chinese, this essay will base onthe analysis of the errors of “jiu”caused by students, select the two textbooks(BoyaChinese、Hanyu Jiaocheng)as subjects, analyze the English translation or annotationfor “jiu” in the two textbooks, and find out the advantages and disadvantages of them,and give suggestions for revise in the end.
