In recent years, the value of competency in the management received more extensive attention.The competency is the foundation of the management functions, it not only can promote the recruitment, selection, training, performance management, career planning and other work, but also can enhance the competitiveness of enterprises.This study choose the tour guide for the study, learning from some current mature research methods, and according to China's national conditions and political background, had done a more in-depth study for the competency of the tour guides and job performance, it not only enrich the theory of the competency knowledge system, but also provide some theoretical guidance for travel agencies to recruit, train tour guides.Based on the past extensive literature,the study reviewed and summarized the past theory.and presented the purpose of this study,the research ideas and hypotheses; and on this basis, the author also introduced the research methods and the research tools. According to the survey and analysis of the open-ended questionnaire, the author has worked out the guide competency questionnaire, and then through empirical research methods, the author has done in-depth study for tour guides' competency and job performance.This study have some following conclusions:first, according to the questionnaires, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, the study get eight competency guides:personal qualities, communication skills, sense of service, expertise, compression techniques, learning and innovation, solidarity and cooperation and thinking skills; second, according to the guide competency and job performance correlation, regression analysis, the study find the competency has a significant positive impact on job performance.there is a significant difference between different dimensions of competency and different dimensions of job performance.
