A Report Of Tour Guide Interpreting Project For NAC’s "Nanjing City Tour"

Under the policy of Opening up and reform, China’s economy is developing at a fast speed. Chinese-English tour guide interpreting is playing a more and more important role in the field of both tourism and business. Tour guide interpreter may encounter all kinds of communication issues when they are faced with visitors with different cultural background. The interpreter should convey the correct cultural and historical information to visitors in the limited time. Whether a tour guide interpreting is good or not has a huge impact on the tourists impression towards a city. In the project report, the author analyzes the difficulties and problems during the whole tour.There are mainly three problems:First, inadequate extra-linguistic knowledge; Second, the translation of specific cultural words; And third, information re-expression. According to the above three problems, combining with the writer’s own learning experience, on the basis of the three steps of translation, the author puts forward the following four solutions:understanding the three steps of translation, strengthening the extra-linguistic knowledge accumulation, choosing proper translation method on specific cultural words and using interpreting skills to deal with re-expression.It is the author’s hope that this interpretation project will help address the above problem encountered by the tour guide interpreters. Moreover, use what we learn in classroom to make contributions to the development of China’s tourism industry.
