A Report On The Tour Guide Escort Interpretation Of The 22nd World Route Development Forum

The tourism activity has a long history that starts far back,and it plays an irreplaceable role in enhancing tourists' physical and mental health,promoting the exchanges between Chinese civilization and different other civilizations and improving the friendly relationships between China and other countries.The research of tour guide interpreting can help English tour guides to remove the communication barriers during the sightseeing tours of international tourists,promote cross-cultural communication,allow Chinese civilization and different other civilizations to learn from one another and improve China's soft power.This interpretation practice report is based on the reception task of the 22 nd World Route Development Forum,in which the author participated in September2016.Specifically speaking,the Organizing Committee of the 22 nd World Route Development Forum had arranged sightseeing tours for the guests of the forum before it started.Based on the interpretation service offered by the author to the No.3 tour group in Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and Sichuan Cuisine Museum,this interpreting practice report describes the whole interpretation process from the preparation before the interpretation to the summary after the interpretation and illustrates the application of Relevance Theory to tour guide interpreting.In addition,it also researches the selection of interpreting strategies under the guidance of Relevance Theory and analyzes specific cases in the interpretation practice.Based on the analysis and summary of the tour guide interpreting practice,this report combines the research about Relevance Theory with the research about tour guide interpreting.Through analyzing specific cases in the interpretation practice,it also researches such difficulties as loss of cultural information,loss of contextually implied information,redundant information,lengthy sentence structures and information specification in the source spoken discourse in the process of tour guide interpreting.Finally,this report puts forward such applicable interpreting strategies as amplification of cultural information,amplification of contextually implied information,simplification,adaption and specification and wholly summarizes this tour guide interpreting practice.More importantly,the author sincerely hopes that this report can provide valuable enlightenment to the fellow Chinese-English tour guide-interpreters in the tourism industry.
