The discovery of Dunhuang Quzici (a form of literature) provided empirical data on the origin of Ci. In the history of Ci, Dunhuang Quzici plays an extremely important role. In this paper, I adopt many methods,such as historical retrospection, textual research,interdisciplinary, to study the spread of Dunhuang Cipai. The songs will be examined along with Dunhuang history and culture. By comparing the formats with later Ci, we will find the relationship between musical structures and writing methods. All of these will be discussed in detail in the paper.The first section of the paper discusses the importance of Dunhuang Quzici and the origin of Ci. As we all know, Dunhuang Quzici originated in the folk, and its content covered a wealth of social issues and people's sentiments. It has always been considered as the origin of Ci. By combining the results of previous studies, I will attempt to find the source of Dunhuang Cipai and the characteristics of melody in its early stage, further find it gave birth to later Ci with its free verse.The second section discusses the evolution of Dunhuang Quzici. Any form of art style has to go through the process from simple to complex. The number of words, the form of sentences and the rhyme of songs are not fixed. All of these characteristics reflect that Dunhuang Quzici is the source of Ci. Although it has no fixed format, in a manner, it leaves a broad space for the diversity of Ci.The third section mainly focuses on discussing why Ci has so many styles. Ci has been principally influenced by music. due to the array of distinctive musical instruments used, the reform of music, the evolutions of musicians'creation, the musical tones have changed. As it does, the writer's subjective creative impulses. In addition, Tunes and structures of song chosen, impact the style of Ci,The fourth section discusses the impact of the songs in Dunhuang and the change of styles. Because of their natural and simple styles, they attracted a large number of writers to create songs. Because of different historical and cultural environments, Ci shows different characteristics and styles in the spreading process.The fifth and final section summarizes the main findings of the paper. Researching the development and the change of the tune of lyrics, we will find the relationship between musical structures and writing methods, and summarize the reasons why Ci has so many styles.
