Development of human civilization is inseparable from language and character.Language put up a bridge of communication to promote the exchange of human society; the character heritage the glory of mankind from generation to generation and ensure the continuation and development of human civilization. Character is developing continuously. Font as the character of the manifestations, its development is inseparable from the development process of the character. There are a large number of font,whether hieroglyphic or alphabetic characters; they all have their own complete font systems. This is also shows the importance of fonts from the side. Compared with the language, character is more powerful in terms of recording capability. But in terms of emotional expression, language is stronger and direct than character. Font, the manifestation of character, can be considered as the expression of character. Paragraph of text with the appropriate font can strengthen the message and emotion.Computers have been deep into all aspects of our life and work today. A computer can be used to do heavy typographical work with a few minutes. To complete those same works, professionals would take some weeks in the past. Through the continuous efforts, Programmers and designers make the font be converted into digital signals and can be displayed with the computer perfectly. Font design has also been an unprecedented development, design and use of fonts through the computer has become the mainstream, a lot of new fonts continue to emerge. Today we could use almost all of the fonts with computer. A lot variety of the fonts could be to meet all of our basic typesetting requirements. But the problem is that a lot of fonts began to fill the audience's font library, due to lack of appropriate font management, it has become hard for audiences to select a right font when people face to the increase of fonts number. Font resources wasted. It spends the designers who have high demand for graphic font relatively long time to do the font selection. In short, the increasing number of fonts expands the range of options to the designer; while potentially waste the choosing time people have to spend. If people have no a feasible selection method, this issue will continue to deteriorate.This paper will be divided into three main parts to analysis step by step:1. Investigation and analysis of the concept and classification of fonts. This part can help the author to understand the development and current status of the font. It plays a supporting role to the paper.2. Survey and analysis. Through questionnaires, understand of the specific audience experience when using and selecting the font. Analyze the common features of different font styles and to provide the basis of making solutions of font selection.3. Based on reality and the audience experience, made a personalized solution to help people selecting font suitably and analyze feasibility. Design the interface of software which can help people to do the font selection.In this paper, the conclusions is as following:1. basic situation about audience selection and use of fonts:①Most of the respondents can distinguish and identify the different font and the respondents with design education backgrounds have a stronger ability to identify the font.②Most of the respondents would choose the font in daily life and work. They choose font with using of office auto software to make manuscript, tables, or presentation and using of professional design software to make the audience file.③Most of the respondents think that the font selection process is difficult, because of three main reasons:the style of the font is difficult to grasp and choose it effectively, many computers have too many font to choose with short time, computer default font is hard to meet the needs of the audiences.④Most of the respondents want to be assisted in the font selection.2. Base on the difference between the different font styles, font types will be divided into eight kinds of font style, are "classical", "fashion", "soft", "rough", "relax", "serious", "cute "," mature "in the paper. According to these styles, made a optimal solution to choose font right in different occasions and purposes. This paper aims to research and find that the existing problems in font selection and to propose a conceptual Imagine and solution to the problem. Because the large number of fonts, the solution to the problem about font selection needs more focus and effort.I hope this article can provide theoretical support for future research in related fields.
