English language lays an emphasis on hypotaxis while Chinese language on parataxis. English sentence emphases on overt cohesion while Chinese sentence on covert coherence. The study of the two languages reveals the relativity of hypotaxis and parataxis:that is, while English is featured by hypotaxis and Chinese by parataxis, it does not mean that parataxis is totally excluded from English or hypotaxis is absolutely rejected in Chinese. The difference of thinking habits brings about the syntactic differences, to be specific, that is, the difference between English language and Chinese language. Based on the language difference, we should analyze the logical relationship so as to translate sentences naturally. From the perspective of hypotaxis and parataxis, this paper shows the three kinds of long sentence and uses a number of examples to discuss practical translation skills, such as linear translation, hysteron-proteron, division and combination. By employing various translation skills, a translator can maintain the original style and the textual meaning of source text to the largest extent in their translated version.
