Zhu Xi is not only a great philosopher, thinker and Neo-Confucian of ancient China, but also a great educator who devoted himself to education for more than forty years. Apart from his broad and profound educational thoughts, Zhu Xi also built a very deep and cordial relationship with his students. This unique teacher-student relationship and factors that contribute to its formation and development are well worth our exploration and research.This thesis adopts the research approach of analysis and induction on the basis of literature reading. By collecting and reading the writings of Zhu Xi and research articles about Zhu Xi, the author excavates the discussions of Zhu Xi on the relationship between teachers and students, and sums up the teacher-student relationship between Zhu Xi and his disciples formed in his teaching practice, and analyzes the characteristics of this relationship and its modern implications.The thesis consists of six parts. Part One states the significance and purpose of the topic and introduces Zhu Xi and his times. Part Two discusses the way of education by which the teacher-student relationship between Zhu Xi and his disciples abides, including Zhu Xi's educational purposes, principles, methods and contents. Part Three studies the contents of Zhu Xi's relationship with his students from six aspects, namely, the main concepts, the impartation of Confucian orthodoxy, the approach of teaching; the principle of mutual treatment, the attachment between the teacher and his students, and the achievements of his disciples. Part Four summarizes the four characteristics of Zhu Xi's relationship with his students:teaching by precept and example, respecting teachers and caring students, teaching and learning at the same time, helping and cooperating with each other. Part Five discusses the modern implications of Zhu Xi's teacher-student relationship. Referring to the contents and features of Zhu Xi's teacher-student relationship, the author makes a proposal about the formation of harmonious relationship between teachers and students of Chinese Universities. Part Six highly summarizes the whole thesis and evaluates Zhu Xi's teacher-student relationship and its modern significance.
