On Verb Paraphrasing Method In Foreign-Chinese Learners' Dictionaries

In the recent years, along with the development of the foreign-Chinese education, more and more Chinese learners start to use the foreign-Chinese learners' dictionaries as their assistant tools. The publication of the foreign-Chinese learners' dictionary is becoming more and more flourishing. There are kinds of foreign-Chinese learners' dictionaries, but few are accepted by the foreign-Chinese teachers and the exchange students, mainly because most of the foreign-Chinese learners' dictionaries are composed from the Chinese native speakers' perspective, following the traditional composing system of Chinese dictionaries. Therefore, there are problems in paraphrasing. It is hard to compose the English learners' dictionaries which are accepted by most foreign language learners. This paper aims at the verbs in the C grade vocabulary in Chinese Level Vocabulary Syllabus and analyses the verb paraphrasing in The Commercial Press Learner's Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese, on its paraphrasing methods, paraphrasing language, paraphrasing samples, etc. to find out the merits and demerits of the The Commercial Press Learner's Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese, and to provide the valuable advice for the future composing of foreign-Chinese learners' dictionaries.There are five parts in this paper:Ⅰ. IntroductionThis part includes the significance of choosing this subject, the literature review of the foreign-Chinese paraphrasing research, and locates the research target and methods.Ⅱ. The analysis on the verb paraphrasing vocabulary in The Commercial Press Learner's Dictionary of Contemporary ChineseThis chapter analyzes the requirement for the paraphrasing vocabulary in foreign-Chinese learners' dictionaries and makes the quantitative statistics and analysis on the C grade vocabulary in the Chinese Level Vocabulary Syllabus involved in The Commercial Press Learner's Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese, to see whether they meet the standards of the paraphrasing vocabulary in foreign-Chinese learners' dictionaries and which points need to be improved.Ⅲ. It classifies and analyzes the paraphrasing methods which are commonly used in The Commercial Press Learner's Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese and other foreign-Chinese learners' dictionaries to find out the merits and demerits of different paraphrasing methods so as to be adapted by the future dictionary composing.Ⅳ. Verb paraphrasing samples in The Commercial Press Learner's Dictionary of Contemporary ChineseThis chapter analyzes the requirement for the paraphrasing samples in the foreign-Chinese learners' dictionaries and compares the verb paraphrasing samples in The Commercial Press Learner's Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese and Contemporary Chinese Dictionary to see whether meet the needs of the Chinese learners for the paraphrasing samples or not.Ⅴ. Conclusion and suggestionBased on the conclusion and analysis on the paper, this chapter puts forward reasonable suggestions for the future composing of Chinese learners' dictionary and points out the insufficiency of the research, which will be the direction of the author's further research.
