Subvertion And Stick

Since Wang Shuo's first novella Airline Hostess was published, he and his novel became a controversial hot topic in 1990s. Some thought he had a new concept of creating novel, but some others thought he had nothing particular.With a view to the aspects which people thought had bad effects on his novel,1 use the method of intensive reading to analyze the value orientation of the novel from the perspectives of Social science and literary criticism and get a conclusion:The value orientation of the novel has a duality of subversion and stick.Besides the preface and conclusion, this article has four chapters.The first chapter:The collapse of self-respect and the regression of ordinary human nature. "Wang Shuo's rebellions" has its special background and causes. The author criticized the egoistically feudal thought from five aspects and pointed out the thought did harm to society. It let the readers face to the basic needs of physiology and psychology directly and warmly called the regression of human nature.The second chapter:The ablation of the authority. The author issued a challenge to the Intellectuals and analyzed the terrible consequences of overbearing power. The purpose of subverting the authority is to seek for a reasonable social order and equal right to speak between people. It has subjective cause of his experiences and objective reason of authority defects.The third chapter:Ideal escaping from reality and endless desire. After the Eleventh Plenary Session III, the social situation changed a lot and the closed and ridiculous life pattern was ended by restoring things to order. It made those serious and empty ideals go away and the thoughts of pleasure seeking and money worship become popular.The fourth chapter:Political language used widely and political awareness dispelled. The author used a lot of political language purposely in order to dispel political awareness, subvert the unreasonable tradition of political culture and mainstream values and ridicule traditional life pattern. In this way, the novel provided those secular and interest literary figures and indicated that people had right to choose their life pattern which they liked but not to disturb others.
