The Peacock Image's Application In Illustration Designs

Peacock image is a special ethnological logo which had been well known by most of easterner in the culture history. The eastern ethics choose peacock as a spiritual symbol for their characters of beauty, grace and nobleness. With the development of cultural exchanges between east and west, peacock image has produced many kind of new forms bored from different values at all times and in all countries. In the illustration field which is full of fancy and creativity, peacock image is very attractive. No matter in traditional religious illustration, decorative illustration and literary illustration, or in contemporary brand logo, pop art and Digital illustration, the constantly changing peacock image is a typical art image to explain the meaning of beauty for all people from different countries and times.This article tries to use the peacock image (which is full of historic and culture notion) as a typical example to explore similarities and differences between traditional and modern illustration in forms and contents. The author analyzed productive thinking, drawing skills, media application and communication of illustration with many wonderful works in order to find the innovative and glamorous methods to express the animal image in different kinds of illustration designs.For this reason, the historical visual angle and divergent thinking had been used through the whole article. The main parts of this article are chapter2,3and4. The most important contents concentrate on chapter3and4. Chapter2has analyzed peacock image's pluralistic meanings in many kinds of cultural backgrounds in order to make some theoretical supports of cultural history and numerous aesthetic psychologies. Chapter 3analyzed peacock image's art expression in traditional illustrations through a lot of typical works in order to make some inductions of how to use animal image in illustrations according to the matching themes successfully. From chapter3, we can find some useful regular patterns to make animal images easily expressed and more attractive in our illustration works. Chapter4analyzed innovative designs of peacock image in modern commercial illustrations in the background of contemporary social culture and new media environment. From chapter4, the author has also researched how to apply the traditional successful modes of animal images into contemporary illustration under the new media environment (include drawing medias and communication medias). We should try our best to make our animal illustrations full of characteristics of the period together with traditional essences.The innovative feature in this paper is trying to import animal images to modern culture background, new art styles and new media environment to analyze their inner contracts. The author use peacock image as a breakthrough point to study how to make innovative designs in animal illustrations from the angles of their contents and forms. The author thinks that innovation is a multi-dimensional concept which needs to be based on human being's common mind and history. On the other hand, we need an innovative spirit to make these traditional things having new lives. In this progress, meticulous plan is very important. If we want to produce contemporary animal illustrations, we need to know the aesthetical philosophy and communication factors of animal images, then work them out according to contemporary aesthetical cognition. We should apply the new medias suitably to emphasis their beauty and meanings and spread them effectively. As a result, art works and society can get a favorable interactive. When the illustrators pick the minimalism and international styles in their animal-theme works, they need to hold a dialectical attitude. In the same way, when they use decorative styles and classical techniques, they can't draw it same as the old one or give up the traditional art's advantages completely. The proper attitude is to absorb and digest the quintessence of traditional modes of illustrations, then thinking of them in their own mind together with modern method, endowing their works with personalized expression, making them look like familiar strangers which can reflect the times and worth to be tasted carefully. That's what we have been searching for.
