As one of the earliest Chinese ancient furniture, the screen was depicted in paintings in the form of "picture in picture" by painters through the ages, in addition to satisfied people's daily life and aesthetic needs. Therefore, it is not only the indoor furniture with practicality and appreciation integrated, reflecting politic,economy,culture and lifestyle of various periods; but also the common media to carry painting,calligraphy and other artistic achievements, reflecting the moral ethics and aesthetic standard of different times; it is also a kind of important schema to construct paintings, conveying the aesthetic characteristics of "Representation and Metaphor".Mainly taking the screen schemata of 《The Night Entertainment of Han Xizai》,《Double Screen》,《Survey of book》 as examples, this thesis tightly focuses on the artistic expression and aesthetic psychology of "Representation an Metaphor" showed by the schema in the painting, and from that point of view expounds primarily by five parts:At first is the introduction. It introduces the thesis'research contents and scope, and has a briefly overview of the significance and the research status of domestic and foreign current, and also explains this thesis'innovation and research methods.The second part gets down to discussing the subjects, revealing the generating background of the screen schema and having a summarized carding for the screen schema in paintings.The third part has a further discussion about the relationship between screen schema and the aesthetic characteristics of traditional Chinese culture in three respects of Confucianism and Taoism,aesthetic psychology and Geomantic culture.The fourth part is the core of this thesis, and it focuses on the aesthetic characteristics of the screen schema's "Representation and Metaphor". This part interprets from the reproducibility that the screen schema restores the real screen, reproduces the art carrier of ancient painting and calligraphy and reappears the visual experience. And from the perspective of the metaphorical interprets that the screen schema is the main constructing means of paintings'time and space, is the materialization shows of China's hierarchy, and is the outward manifestation of the inner world of characters in the paintings.The last part, namely the conclusion, is a summary about the characteristics of screen schema's "Representation and Metaphor", emphasizing the important value of the research.In the course of the study, the author strives to break through on the basis of the results of previous studies, starting from the perspective of aesthetic psychology, taking the characteristics of "Representation and Metaphor" as a viewpoint, and learning from Western iconography's methods to re-examine the screen arts. Hope to provide a relatively accurate way of interpretation to restore the art outlook of ancient screen through the interpretation of the characteristics of "Representation and Metaphor", but also to provide a wide range of perspectives that can have an in-depth understanding of screen paintings'connotation.
